Education vs. Experience: What Are Employers Really Looking For?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This session is part of the Music Business Educators Meetup — a time for professors, faculty members, and other higher-education enthusiasts to review the past semester, present new trends that can benefit the classroom, and discuss the future of music business education.

Trending conversations among both government officials and major media/music outlets seem to suggest that given the choice, they would rather hire students with experience than students who have only obtained a degree. With terms such as “in-the-door” talent being discussed among hiring directors, and state and local legislators’ focusing on employment rates versus graduation rates, what should be Academia’s response? How are Music Business programs addressing the needs of the music industry and students through curriculum offerings and non-curriculum related programs?
