On-demand streaming is dominated by the $9.99 full catalog, all you can eat subscription model which has a high cost structure, offers every song from every genre, and requires enormous scale to (possibly) reach profitability. Mainstream music dominates these platforms because they need to reach the masses. However, music has a long history of tribalism and sub-cultures in live shows, festivals, physical sales, and social belonging.  Is there a role in the digital landscape for niche-oriented services?  Can sustainability be reached by user engagement and not just scale?   Join a lively discussion from companies paving the way.
